Kei Terada

Editorial Hair Stylist and Hairdresser

Keisuke Terada was born in 1979 and grew up in a town called Oita, in the heart of the Japanese countryside. Kei comes from a family of hairdressers and so was exposed to the industry and its creativity at a young age.

Kei moved to London in 1998 to embark on his training and career, attending the Vidal Sassoon Academy. In 1999 he began working for Windle as a junior. Kei soon mastered his skills and expanded on his creative style of cutting and moved up the ranks. By 2000, he had qualified as a Senior Stylist and counted both models and celebrities such as Erin O’Conner and members of the band Coldplay as his clients.

By 2005 Kei had become a well-known face on the session scene. His work on the hair teams of designers such as Lacoste, Margaret Howel and Julian MacDonald Gave him the opportunity to explore his talent for what he calls 'sculpturing hair' and the art of the updo!

Teaching was Kei's next move. He now holds regular classes for junior stylists in the Windle salon. Passing on his innovation and assisting with fresh recruits cutting and styling classes is something which Kei feels is both exciting and rewarding.

Kei says 'I love creating looks and styles that make an impact, be it in class, on the catwalk, or on the client. It is just as rewarding to see the bright smile of a pleased client and an impressed student as it is to see the photographers snapping your work.'

Hairdressing is both a career and hobby for Kei. His other pastimes include Japanese animation, cartoons shopping in the West End, and his morning coffee and cigarette before his first client!
